    About Agnéz Deréon

Agnéz M. (DeRouen) Beyincé, known as Agnes or Agnéz, was born on July 1, 1909 in Abbeville, Louisiana. She was baptized nearby in Delcambre. Agnéz was a skilled seamstress whose eye for style would later inspire her daughter and granddaughter to launch the House of Deréon fashion line in her honor.

Agnéz Deréon Early Life & Family Details

Agnéz was the youngest of an incredible 16 children born to Eugene Derouen and Odilia Broussard. By 1920, the large family had relocated to Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. Several of Agnéz’s siblings and other relatives lived with them there. Growing up in such a big family surely shaped Agnéz’s early years.

    Married Life Of Agnéz Deréon

At the young age of 17, around 1926, Agnéz married her first husband, Mervin Marsh. The couple had two children together, Selina and Mervin Jr., before later divorcing. Agnéz went on to find love again with Lumis Beyincé. She and Lumis had several more children, including Selena Rittenhouse, Florence Bowers, Tina B. Knowles (mother of Beyoncé), Mervin Mash Jr., Larry Buyince, Roland Buyince, and Lumis Buyince Jr. It’s clear family was very important to Agnéz.

Later in life, Agnéz settled in Galveston, Texas, where she lived for her last 30 years. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Sadly, Agnéz passed away from cardiac failure on July 4, 1980 at the University of Texas Medical Branch hospital in Galveston. She was survived by her loving husband, children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and siblings. Her funeral was held at her beloved church, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and she was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.

    Agnéz Deréon Professional Career

While census records don’t provide details on Agnéz’s occupation, it’s been reported that she was a skilled seamstress. This talent for sewing and design seems to have been passed down through the generations, as both Tina and Beyoncé have made names for themselves in the fashion industry.

As a seamstress, Agnéz likely honed her craft over many years, developing an eye for detail and a keen sense of style. These skills would prove invaluable not only in her own life but in the lives of her descendants as well.

    Her Contributions To Fashion

Though she may not have been a famous designer herself, Agnéz’s contributions to the world of fashion are significant. By passing down her love of sewing and design to her daughter, Tina, she helped to lay the foundation for a fashion empire.

Tina Knowles went on to become a successful fashion designer in her own right, creating costumes for Destiny’s Child and eventually launching her own fashion line, House of Deréon, named in honor of her mother.

Agnéz Deréon & House of Deréon

The House of Deréon fashion line was founded by Tina Knowles and her daughter, Beyoncé, in 2006. The name was chosen as a tribute to Agnéz Deréon, whose maiden name was Derouen.

By naming the fashion line after her mother, Tina Knowles acknowledged the important role that Agnéz played in her own life and career. It was a way of honoring her mother’s memory and recognizing the impact she had on the family’s creative pursuits.

    Legacy Of Agnéz Deréon

Though she may have lived a relatively quiet life, Agnéz Deréon’s legacy is anything but ordinary. Her love of sewing and design has been passed down through generations, inspiring her daughter and granddaughter to achieve great things in the world of fashion.

But Agnéz’s legacy extends beyond just fashion. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who instilled strong values in her family. Her dedication to her faith and her community also serve as an example for others to follow.

    Conclusion

Agnéz Deréon may not have been a well-known designer, but her influence on her family and the world of fashion is very important. As a skilled seamstress, she inspired her daughter, Tina Knowles, and granddaughter, Beyoncé, to follow their dreams in fashion, leading to the creation of the House of Deréon.

Agnéz’s legacy lives on not only in the success of the brand but also in the strong family values she passed down. Her life story shows us the power of love, creativity, and family, reminding us of how important it is to follow our passions and honor those who came before us.
